THE LODGE

Lovingly reimagined in a thoughtful mixture of styles by visionary design duo Heidi Schor and Paul Damen of House Healers, the expansive, light-filled dwelling marries the virtues of a new construction with the lineage and character of a storied old house and offers delightful, year-round indoor-outdoor settings for everyday moments and grand celebrations with family and friends.

The Lodge

Refined Urban Loft in Verdant Setting

Dappled light floods the vaulted open space through floor-to-ceiling window walls. Organic interior forms reflect the verdant tree-filled exterior accessed by multiple decks and gardens, nuancing and softening repurposed and reimagined industrial materials. Artist-designed lighting enhances custom-created architectural spaces. A wraparound concrete hearth window seat and textured redwood wall with integrated lighting create an inviting atmosphere and warm glow in the bamboo-tiled entertainment areas. Utilitarian features meld seamlessly with salvaged and repurposed artifacts and richly textured, artistically executed details to create a one-of-a-kind home for sophisticated living.

Replete with 21st-Century Luxuries

Entirely new state-of-the-art systems. Stunning kitchen with high-end appliances and stainless-steel cabinets and shelves. Double-framed interior walls for heat and sound insulation. The protection of a new roof. Central heating and cooling for comfort regardless of climate. Brand-new plumbing, tankless on-demand hot water, and a laundry room for each floor. Opulent 5-piece tiled-wall master bath with heated concrete floor, wall-mounted toilet, shower wall of single-piece stone evoking a cloud-shrouded Japanese watercolor, and stainless-steel soaking tub overlooking the serene Japanese garden. New exterior windows bring the outdoors in and transom windows create playful interior lightscapes in the dramatic halls and passageways. The rare residential parking lot graciously accommodates your guests.

Authentic History

Found and salvaged functional elements, curatorially repurposed and integrated throughout the home, elevate the architecture, referencing local and global history. A rustic 19th-century Indian entry gate. Hallway lights from Tacoma’s Masonic Temple; Jetsons™-style living room pendants from First United Methodist Church, Everett. An ebonized floor hand-milled from Puyallup High School’s bleachers. A bowling alley’s wooden lanes upcycled as kitchen countertops and windowsills; a rusted steel packing crate forming the base of the custom kitchen island. Commercial stainless steel walk-in refrigerator doors enclosing the pantry and closets; a bank vault door demarcating the powder room; hand-carved cedar double doors from a Bainbridge Island estate screening the master suite. Brutalist-era dressers repurposed as bathroom vanities; Asian bowls serving as sinks; an extraordinary, intricately veined 5’ x 7’ stone slab as shower backsplash in the master bath: objects beautiful in themselves now enriching Chinook House with the stories they tell. Fascinating histories you now get to share for a lifetime.

Communing with the Outdoors

Three walls of windows, decks rebuilt with hefty 2’ x  8’ cedar, and meandering elevated walkways through a Japanese-style garden connect the lodge to a magnificent Northwest landscape, redolent with possibility. Afternoon tea on the gently sloping lawn? Yoga or art in the freestanding Zen studio? Bird-watching among the birches and enormous western balsam? All accompanied by the musical murmur of Thornton Creek anchoring Chinook House to Seattle’s largest watershed.

“AMAZING! Chinook House has an esthetic that is missing in most dwellings today.
I appreciate the design and how they captured the era’s integrity but brought inspiration from around the world; creating an eclectic symphony of art, culture, taste & texture. These Healers are gifts to our community. I thank them & you for the experience!”
